La morte del fuco: quando si dice ‘finire sul piú bello’

Oh qua le temperature si fanno sempre piú fredde e oggi vogliamo parlare di qualcosa di un po’ hot! A parte gli scherzi 🙂 oggi ci soffermiamo su una particolaritá delle api che mi ha mooolto colpita…no anzi scusa, non é il termine piú adatto…shockata appena ne sono venuta a conoscenza! Un modo in cui puó sopraggiungere la morte del fuco…Ma siccome si sa, la natura é la natura ed é bellissima cosí…alla fine non temere si concluderá tutto probabilmente con una gran bella risata! O per lo meno questo é quello che é successo a tutte le persone con cui ho condiviso questa curiositá sul mondo delle api. Dai, lo sappiamo che abbiamo stuzzicato il tuo interesse…preparati per questa chicca perché se non ne sai molto sul mondo delle api, molto probabilmente ti sará nuova!

L’accoppiamento in arena

Entriamo ora in punta di piedi per sbirciare un momento alquanto intimo di questo universo giallo e nero. L’accoppiamento. L’ape regina, femmina. Il fuco, maschio. Ecco, non solo uno. Un po’ di piú. Tipo da qualche centinaia a 15mila fuchi. Dipende quante api ci siano in zona. Dalla primavera inoltrata all’estate, questi decidono di farsi una capatina per raggiungere le cosiddette arene di fecondazione. Come da similitudine utilizzata dall’esperto Fontana, una sorta di Bar Sport dei fuchi, dove si trovano in gran quantitá in attesa che passi qualche bella ape regina 🙂 ma che é ‘sta arena? Dove si trova? É uno spazio a circa 40 metri dal suolo, con un diametro che va da qualche decina a poche centinaia di metri. Ecco di solito nelle ore centrali, le piú calde della giornata, i fuchi raggiungono questi spazi.

E poi??

Il fuco sosta lí per un po, circa mezz’ora, il tempo di un caffé con calma insomma. Se passa una regina e solo e soltanto se entra in una di queste arene, i fuchi inizieranno a prestarle attenzione. La regina li trova senza problemi, anche perché attratta dai loro feromoni. Nella sua vita l’ape regina lascerá l’arnia solo in questa occasione e solo in questa occasione copulerá. Diciamo che una volta le basta e avanza. Peró ehi alla faccia di una volta: si accoppia non solo con un fuco, ma da circa 8 a 20 fuchi. Ció le permette di raccogliere nella sua cosiddetta spermateca fino a 6 milioni di spermatozoi… Che, fidati, le bastano per il resto della sua vita! Altra piccola grande curiositá: sempre per l’espressione ‘basta e avanza’, solo l’ape regina depone le uova nell’alveare. Ma come? E le operaie?? Non sono anche loro femmine? Si, verissimo, ma i loro organi riproduttivi non sono sviluppati. Anche per questo sono impegnate in altre tremila diverse attivitá per il resto della loro esistenza. Lo sapevi che il pungiglione é un residuo primitivo del loro sistema produttivo? Si tratta di una modifica dell’organo deputato alla deposizione delle uova ed é per questo che solo le femmine sono dotate di pungiglione. Un fuco non ti pungerá mai 🙂

Ma aspetta…perché il titolo dell’articolo inizia con ‘la morte del fuco’??

Eh ecco, proprio lí volevo arrivare! Molto in generale, anche i fuchi hanno due testicoli contenenti liquido seminale. L’apparato riproduttivo si strappa con violenza nel momento in cui la regina viene fecondata e a quel punto il fuco muore. Troppe emozioni, povero…piú che altro troppa pressione, letteralmente un’esplosione di felicitá, alla quale il suo piccolo corpo non regge! Lo so, ti é caduta la mascella!

La sapevi questa particolaritá?? Io non ci potevo credere quando Basti me l’aveva raccontata la prima volta. Ricordo ancora anche la reazione dei miei genitori, ridendo a crepapelle ‘Ma dighet del bu??‘ (‘Ma dici davvero??‘ in bergamasco). Ovviamente: povero fuco… ma é sicuramente un tipo di morte inaspettato. Che dici?
