‘Ma tu lo sai che ci sono altri impollinatori, giusto? Non ci sono solo le api…’

‘Ma certooo sisi!’ rispondo prontissimamente a Basti.

Poi il mio cricetino inizia a girare sulla ruota del ‘no ma aspetta…quali sarebbero esattamente?‘

Ma saranno tutti messi male come le api? E se fosse così, cosa si sta facendo per gli impollinatori? Io posso fare qualcosa? Ok, respira e inspira…e vai avanti a leggere!

Ah quindi ci sono altri impollinatori?

Dal cricetino di prima è nata l’idea di questo post. Nel nostro primissimo articolo https://www.gaeblini.com/2021/03/21/perche-le-api-sono-cosi-importanti/ abbiamo parlato delle api e della loro fondamentale importanza in quanto grandi impollinatori. Tuttavia, ce ne sono anche altri, lo sapevi? Adesso chiudi gli occhi un attimo e prova a elencarteli mentalmente, poi vediamo se li hai indovinati tutti.

Non solo api…altri impollinatori?

Ebbene sì, le nostre amiche api ovviamente hanno un ruolo da ambasciatrici degli impollinatori, ma non sono le sole.

A fargli compagnia ci sono: falene, farfalle, formiche, vespe, zanzare (ma solo i maschi, mentre le femmine sono golose di sangue). E ancora bombi, coleotteri, sirfidi. Tuttavia, c’è anche qualcuno al di fuori della famiglia degli insetti pronubi, come pipistrelli, colibrì e lemuri (presente Madagascar?). Nelle varie ricerche ho trovato anche una particolare specie di geco che vive nel continente asiatico. Ma non solo: in alcune zone tropicali ci sono degli uccellini che si nutrono di nettare principalmente (non per niente appartengono alla famiglia dei nettarinidi). Mentre in Sud America esiste il ratto del riso, goloso non di formaggio ma bensì di funghi. Nelle sue ricerche da mangiatore seriale di funghetti, diffonde anche lui inconsapevolmente il polline.

Ecco qui alcuni dei nostri avengers della biodiversità! Quindi, non solo insetti, tanta varietà. Tutti inconsapevolmente aiutanti della natura e del suo equilibrio. Tutti purtroppo minacciati sempre più da inquinamento, cambiamenti climatici, uso di pesticidi e mancanza di habitat naturali.

Si sta facendo qualcosa per gli impollinatori?

Abbiamo detto che sono fondamentali. Basta considerare che senza di loro gran parte dei cibi che mangiamo scomparirebbero. Abbiamo detto che è un bello squadrone. Ma abbiamo anche detto che sono in grave pericolo per i motivi sopra citati.

A questo punto mi sono chiesta, anche con un po’ di ansia-lo ammetto, ma qualcuno sta facendo qualcosa???

Ho fatto diverse ricerche e mi pare abbastanza significativo il fatto di aver trovato con difficoltà qualcosa di pratico. Sia a livello di Unione Europea che di Nazioni Unite, c’è sicuramente una generale presa di coscienza del fatto che manca una seria consapevolezza della gravità della situazione. Insomma, la gente la deve capire, ma davvero però! Vero anche che le stesse istituzioni hanno iniziato a focalizzarsi (finalmente) su questi temi solo recentemente, quindi siamo un po’ tutti nella stessa barca.

Richiedo: qualcuno sta facendo qualcosa??

Dopo questo mea culpa generale, sí! Si sta facendo qualcosa. Ad esempio, la FAO si sta occupando del GPP (Global Pollination Project, ovvero progetto impollinazione globale – trovi il relativo link in fondo al post). Attraverso quest’ultimo sta attuando diversi progetti in tutto il mondo per sensibilizzare le popolazioni locali riguardo gli impollinatori nell’applicazione di un’agricoltura sostenibile nel rispetto dell’ecosistema.

Per quanto riguarda l’Unione Europea, il cuore del green deal (2019-2024) è l’ambiente (non per niente green, verde). Tra i punti fondamentali: il ripristino della biodiversità e la lotta all’inquinamento. Pochi anni fa inoltre l’ UE ha raccolto in un libricino delle iniziative a tutela degli impollinatori portate a termine da alcuni Stati Membri.

Qualche esempio su come alcuni Stati Membri hanno aiutato gli impollinatori?

  • In Austria si è incoraggiata la creazione e manutenzione di margini ricchi di fiori, sia per strade che campi. Organizzano corsi di identificazione di impollinatori e in molte aree lungo i marciapiedi ci sono percorsi segnaletici educativi sulle api.
  • In Belgio dal 2015 il ministero dell’ambiente, dell’agricoltura e dell’energia ha indetto la settimana dell’ape. Gli obiettivi sono quelli, in primis, di aumentare la consapevolezza riguardo i problemi che stanno vivendo le api e più in generale l’ambiente. Ma anche inspirare nel creare habitat più ricchi e diversificati per gli impollinatori ed incoraggiare l’azione e un cambiamento di mentalitá nei loro confronti. Si organizza inoltre una gara in collaborazione con chi gestisce gli spazi verdi pubblici per premiare la cittadina più bee-friendly. Sempre in Belgio nell’Aprile 2015, una campagna rivolta ai giardini privati ha deciso di donare 1000 hotel per api selvatiche in cooperazione con il più importante attuale giornale fiammingo.
  • In Irlanda dal 1958 esiste una competizione annuale chiamata Tidy towns (città pulite, in ordine) per dare la possibilità di mettersi in risalto anche alle più piccole ma meravigliose località irlandesi. Nel 2016 – 2017 questa iniziativa ha incoraggiato azioni a tutela degli impollinatori in tante città e paesini, arrivando a premiarne più di 70 maggiormente degni di nota. Nel 2017 è stato avviato anche un progetto di esplorazione degli impollinatori attraverso l’arte, inclusa la musica con la registrazione dei suoni degli impollinatori irlandesi.
  • In Spagna l’Istituto di scienza (CSIC) di Madrid in collaborazione con i giardini botanici reali e la fondazione spagnola per la scienza e la tecnologia (FECYT) ha indetto un progetto educativo riguardo gli impollinatori. Gli studenti dovevano monitorare questi ultimi negli spazi verdi di Madrid e pubblicare le loro osservazioni su una piattaforma scientifica (Natusfera). Da questo progetto è nata un’APP (PolinizAPP). Si tratta di un modo ludico per aumentare la consapevolezza dell’importanza del processo di impollinazione e dei pericoli che putroppo gli impollinatori stanno affrontando.

Questi sono solo alcuni esempi, il PDF che racchiude i vari progetti lo trovi in fondo al post e ha circa 60 pagine!

Tutti questi progetti hanno in comune la collaborazione tra più stakeholders (letteralmente portatori di interessi). Ma che si intende per ‘portatore di interessi’? Chiunque sia, direttamente e non, interessato a determinate tematiche. E considerando che queste vanno a toccare l’ambiente, il pianeta in cui viviamo, beh …si presume siamo tutti alquanto portatori di interessi! 🙂 In un periodo come questo, dove per causa di forza maggiore siamo obbligati a stare lontani fisicamente gli uni dagli altri, secondo me è bellissimo trovare un punto di incontro. Un punto di incontro su qui spremerci le meningi tutti insieme per poi decidere di far qualcosa nel nostro piccolo. Tutto ció alla fine va oltre le distanze di sicurezza e le restrizioni, no? Insomma, un punto che è fondamentale per tutti perché ne va del nostro futuro (e del futuro del nostro futuro). Per questo ti dico, copia senza ritegno 🙂 prendi ispirazione da queste iniziative!
